From images of gas stations and empty streets, as a painter Edward Hopper made candid observations on modern American life. Seattle Art Museum brings together a group of the artist's interconnected paintings. Highlights include the famous Chop Suey (1929).

Born in New York, Hopper studied illustration and painting at the New York Institute of Art and Design. He died in 1967 and most of his work can be viewed at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Des Moines Art Center and the Art Institute of Chicago.
